Spiced Walnuts

About 2 cups coated nuts

Illustrated interpretation of Spiced Walnuts
Illustrated interpretation from the family cookbook.

Let’s make it

  1. Heat oven to 300°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment. Mix sugar, salt and ground spices; reserve half in a clean airtight jar for another batch.
  2. Whisk egg whites until foamy, then add water. Toss with walnuts; drain off excess liquid.
  3. Toss damp nuts with enough spiced sugar to coat, starting with the unreserved half and adding more if needed. Spread in a single layer on the sheet.
  4. Bake 45–60 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes, until dry and crisp; watch closely near the end. Cool completely, shake off loose sugar and store airtight.
